Hi there! I’m Coconut, but my friends call me Coco. I’m a 2-year-old Miniature Poodle/American Spaniel mix, I weigh 15 pounds, and I’m an adorable white with brown accents.

My story started on the streets of Oakland, where I was found.  A kind family rescued me, but couldn’t keep me. That’s when a family welcomed me into their home last year.  They’ve spent the past year teaching me that life is safe, people can be trusted, and that being a beloved family dog is a pretty great gig.

I’ve come a long way! I currently live with another dog—we’re such good buddies that we even share a crate—and I do just fine hanging out with him. I also live with two cats. I’ll admit they’re awfully fun to chase if they run, but confident cats usually convince me they’re not interested, and I move along.

I’m a healthy, happy little guy who loves treats, enjoys walks, and soaks up affection from the people I know. I can be a little cautious when meeting new people, especially men or young children.  But once I realize visitors are friends, I’m usually happy to accept a few pets and then settle down.  And I like to let everyone know when someone’s at the front door. Think of me as your furry doorbell!

Like many dogs who had a rough start, I still have a few things I’m working on. Walks can be exciting, and sometimes I bark when people or other dogs get too close. The good news? I’m very food motivated, so treats and positive training help me make good choices. I just need someone willing to continue building my confidence.

I also need a family that’s patient with my house training. I understand that potty happens outside, and I stay clean in my crate, but when I have too much freedom indoors, I sometimes forget the rules. A consistent routine, regular potty breaks, and gentle guidance will help me continue improving.  I need someone to give me the time and training I deserve so I’m given every opportunity to become the amazing dog I know I can be.
