Meet Somi, aka Somi Bear! Somi is sweet senior Jindo mix. Somi was chained on a very short leash in a junk yard since she was only a puppy, as she got older her owner saw less value in her and planned on selling her to the meat farm. Rescuers needed assistance from the police to confiscate her from the horrible condition she was in. When Somi arrived to her foster home, she was afraid of people and very shy/skittish. It takes her some time to gain trust and learn that not all humans are bad. Once opened up, she will seek attention (gives kisses, lay next to you and ask for pets). This sweet girl has been through a lot and is now looking for a forever home to call her own!

Somi is ok with other calm and submissive dogs, but will need very slow introduction to them. She does have resource guarding with food around dogs due to where she came from, so a home with no other dogs will be best for her. She likes to go on walks, but only after she forms a strong bond with her people. Due to her fearfulness she is high flight risk.

She is housetrained at her current foster home, but will need time to adjust to a new environment and potty schedule. She might make a few accidents in the beginning especially when she is scared she’ll pee from nervousness. After she opened up she hasn’t shown this in her foster home anymore.

Somi does have separation anxiety in fear that she will be abandoned. We recommend crate training her if she is to be left alone because her separation anxiety will result to destructiveness if not crated. She is not a barker but will whine when left alone or when she’s scared. Somi is learning how to warm her heart to people and she will  be an amazing companion to someone who understands her needs and her past trauma.

We are looking for a home who understands the responsibilities of owning a dog as a member of their family. Somi will need a very special home who is willing to put in the time and patience to help her gain confidence in herself and to show her the world in a new light. Please consider this sweet older girl, Somi is patiently waiting!
