Meet Max! Max was rescued when a kind samaritan was visiting her brother in Guadalajara, MX and got a message about a dog who needed a home. Max’s previous family was going to get rid of him because they could no longer afford a dog. Her brother didn’t think anything of it, expecting the dog to be adopted quickly, but when he saw the message a few more times a few weeks later he got worried about the dog being dumped on the street. So he picked him up! The family did disclose that they were Max’s second home, his first family chose to re-home him because he sheds and the family wanted a non shedding dog. Her brother asked her to help re-home him as he knows that SF is a city that loves dogs, so they flew Max over and now he is getting used to the city life!

Max is still young, around 1-2 years old but has a lot of energy! He is still learning how to walk on leash, but does two 1.5 hour walks a day and he is happy and calm at home at the end of these. He loves playing with other dogs and has been improving on his recall so his foster lets him off leash at areas like Fort Funston. However, in a new home he will need to build recall again with his new owners before being let off leash. Max had never been outside a home/backyard before so strange things scare him, this week he saw an umbrella for the first time and started barking at it. Once he investigates the new unknown thing he calms down. He is a bit of a drooler after walks and during car rides. He’s a great running buddy, they did 4 miles together and he was ready for more!

His rescuer/foster mom works from home so Max hasn’t been alone much, but even if she steps out to go pick up a delivery he sits by the door and softly whines so he does have some separation anxiety. He is a total velcro dog at home and follows her from room to room. Max loves kids, all people, is good with dogs and was friendly meeting cats but hasn’t been left alone unsupervised with them yet. He is housebroken, but not crate trained.

Squeaky toys scare him but he likes gently holding them in his mouth and walking around with them. He is a total sweetheart and would love to find his forever home! We are looking for a home who understands the responsibilities of owning and raising a dog as a member of their family. Max is patiently waiting!
