Meet Elsa! Elsa is an adorable 13 month old Jindo mix from Korea. She came to CA about 2.5 months ago. Elsa came from a high kill shelter where her mom had been taken from her and euthanized. Elsa didn’t have human contact prior to coming to CA due to her previous experience. She takes a long time to open up and show her true personality. Since having been here in CA, she has shown that she prefers to bond with women and will be best in a quiet and slow paced home.
Elsa is very skittish and afraid of new noises, cars, people, and movements. She is considered a flight risk as she did escape during a walk with her current foster family and was on the run for 2 days. Luckily she was spotted and her foster mom was able to catch her, but this was luck. The right home will not feel the need to rush her bonding, trust-gaining period, or need to go on daily walks. Eventually walks or even hikes will be okay, but for the first 3-4 months should be avoided to strengthen the bond between Elsa and her new home. The right home will be someone who just wants a companion by their side at all times. Elsa would be best placed in a home with no kids as the activity level of kids is just too much for her to handle. She isn’t aggressive or mean, and would be safe with them, but will display high anxiety by shaking and panting and fleeing at the sight of fast movement. That’s why a home without kids is best for her.
Elsa is what we describe as a Velcro dog, but does not have a destructive side to her. She does not show signs of having separation anxiety where if left alone she will chew, shred, destroy things or pee in the house. But she will be underfoot and has to have her person in sight at all times.
Elsa likes other dogs but doesn’t need them in her life. If she had a companion, it would be a dog that was not a bossy A-type personality as those scare her. But someone who is playful and can be non-challenging would be a good companion for her. Otherwise, she would be perfectly happy to be the center of her person’s world.
The amazing side of Elsa is her goofy, bouncy, playful side and all her amazing cuddles! Once she trusts her person, she runs zoomies, play bows to initiate play, or rolls over on her back to give you her belly. She has also become somewhat of a fire girl and loves to curl up by the fire pit and watch the flames.
We are looking for a home that understands all these quirks and can handle the time and patience it will take to really bond with Elsa. Elsa is patiently waiting!
