Toby
Meet Toby! Toby was rescued from a 25-year-long illegal breeding and animal abuse facility where countless dogs suffered severe neglect and injury. Our rescue partners intervened and saved Toby from this horrific environment, giving him a chance at a calm and loving life.
Toby is a calm, dignified, and steady companion. He has a composed presence that brings comfort to those around him. Though he can be a bit cautious in new situations, he gradually warms up with gentle guidance. He’s a smart and thoughtful dog who shows his playful side—especially when treats are involved. Toby builds trust slowly but surely. He enjoys human companionship and feels most comfortable in a patient, understanding environment. Once trust is established, he happily joins in walks, relaxes by your side, and enjoys quiet bonding time.
Toby is gentle and mild-mannered, getting along well with other dogs. He enjoys his own space and prefers a calm rhythm, rather than actively seeking play or attention from other dogs. Toby has moderate activity needs. One calm daily walk is sufficient to keep him happy and mentally stimulated. He is fully house-trained, comfortable in his crate, and responds well to grooming and bathing. Ongoing leash training will help him enjoy walks even more.
Toby wants to be loved so badly, but is a little slower to trust. A home with another dog will help him learn to trust his new family faster, and we know he can do it. He is very easy to fall in love with. In many ways, he is a typical Beagle; his nose is always to the ground, he is brave in the great outdoors, LOVES treats, and enjoys the company of another dog. In some ways, he is also NOT your typical Beagle; he is pretty quiet and is low-medium energy.
He has had some trauma in his life; somewhere along the line, his tail was docked, whether on purpose or due to injury is unknown, but his short stubby tail is pretty cute! He has also had knee surgery and has recovered from that. He gets around fine, but should never be pushed to run, jump up on things (although he will try), or climb many stairs as part of his day-to-day life. He should not be in a home with a high-energy dog or an overly playful dog that is bigger than him.
Toby would thrive in a calm, patient household where he can adjust at his own pace. A family that offers gentle guidance, quiet consistency, and plenty of reassurance will allow him to feel secure and confident. If there is another dog in the home, a calm and friendly companion is ideal. Most importantly, Toby’s family should accept him as he is and walk alongside him patiently as he explores the world. Toby is patiently waiting!
