Meet Winston! Winston is a super soft, calm, and friendly 1-year old retriever mix looking for a patient family. He has come a long way from when he first landed in the US, but he is still skittish when exposed to new people and sudden sounds. He will often sit and tremble when he’s too scared outside. Winston will need to go to a quiet, suburban home that has at least one other confident dog and an owner with experience working with dogs that have behavioral issues. He still needs a lot of work, and we are posting his adoption early to help him settle in sooner than later.

Winston is housetrained and has not shown signs of separation anxiety. He sleeps well through the night, and is crate-trained (but he will hide in there all day if he can). Due to his fearful nature, we’ve had to put him on CBD oil and he has responded extremely well to it, and truly opened up after his first few doses. He has not been trained for any other commands, as the priority was to help him decompose. Since we’ve introduced him to an energetic puppy as a companion, he’s become much more affectionate, excited, and eager to play than when he was the only dog in our home – and he’s now curling and wagging his beautiful tail! He walks well when confident in his path and with few distractions, but will stop and plop if he gets too scared. He will now come to us seeking head & belly scratches, and will do well in a calm household who can provide him structure. He’ll be the perfect WFH companion who will shower him with the love he deserves!

We are looking for a home who understands the responsibilities of owning and raising a dog as a member of their family. Winston is patiently waiting!
