Meet Pele! Sweet Pele is a happy, friendly, enthusiastic, curious giant puppy girl. She is a Mastiff mix, about a year old. If you’re a big-dog person, then you need to meet her! She will steal your heart with her gentle love and loyalty.

Pele was rescued from an illegal Korean meat farm after the owner abandoned the dogs to escape a wildfire that burned the area. Sadly, the dogs were locked in their cages, and many perished. Pele was the most severely burnt dog who survived. Just as Pele, the volcano goddess, brings fire and devastation, which time turns into a beautiful paradise, this sweet Pele has arisen from fire and will become a wonderful and amazing companion.

Pele is a loving and loyal girl, who has quickly acclimated to being a house dog. She is partial to stuffed animals and natural chew toys when she’s not snoozing on the couch. She still has occasional puppy energy and loves a brief period of afternoon zoomies in a yard. Like a typical Mastiff, she enjoys brief strolls outside and is fairly low energy. She is obedient on a leash unless very excited by another dog, and is in school to refine her manners. Pele is comfortable being left alone in the house and will pass the time on the couch or in her crate. Pele thoroughly enjoys riding in a car and will happily join you on your errands. Although she is completely house-broken, she will do best in a home with direct access to a yard.

Pele is friendly and curious and enjoys playing with other dogs. She still doesn’t know her own size and is a complete klutz, so for now, structured socialization with other big and friendly dogs would be best.   She has been co-existing with parrots and a cat without issues.  She loves people and will gently greet new friends with a boop from her snoot. Small children should be supervised as she can be overly enthusiastic and tends to knock people over clumsily.  Pele has been learning several commands, including “down,” “sit,” “stay,” “leave it,” and “here.”

Pele is currently a healthy 105lbs and fully grown. She has extensive scarring from her wounds and will need to have her unpigmented skin protected with clothes and sunblock while outside.  She seems to have some residual nerve damage from her injuries that are easily controlled with medication and are improving daily.

Pele is located in San Francisco, CA. She is patiently waiting for someone with a big heart to hold her in it!
