Meet Leo! Leo is an adorable 1 year old Golden Retriever. He’s from Wansan-Gu in Korea, originally. He likely came from a puppy mill and was adopted by a family there, who unfortunately gave him up when they saw how big he was getting. They gave him to a rescue there and he was fostered with another family in Korea, and then he flew to the US on October 3, 2022. He’s been fostered with a young man and woman in San Francisco since his arrival.

Leo is a very affectionate, sweet, and goofy boy who loves his humans. He loves to be pet (especially on his belly and back) and looooves to cuddle. He makes a very good house companion: sleeps through the night, follows you into every room, lays at your feet while you do the dishes, and will ask for cuddles many times a day. One of his favorite hobbies is to gently place his paw on your arm or leg, reminding you he needs pets (and maybe a potty break).

And as you can probably tell, he is such a handsome boy! People stop him on the street to say hello multiple times every day, and last week, someone even asked to have their picture taken with him. And then another time, someone even pulled over in their car to say what a handsome boy he is. He’s basically the George Clooney of the dog world!

Leo’s still a puppy who hasn’t had very much training, but he is smart, VERY food motivated, and responds well to positive reinforcement training. For example, he responded to potty training in less than a week and hasn’t had another accident inside since. He is still working on standard puppy behavior (jumping up to greet people, pulling on the leash, and chewing on things he isn’t supposed to) but with patience and lots of treats, he can learn anything. He’s learned “sit,” “down,” and “shake,” and can do them all pretty consistently.

As a puppy, his energy level varies. Sometimes, he is very chill and sleeps/cuddles all day, and other times, he can tear through three fluffy toys and a Benebone and need to go outside a lot! He definitely needs stimulation, which is why he would do well in a home with a yard and other dogs, but he’s very adaptable and could thrive in many different kinds of environments.

Leo loves people and dogs equally, greeting both as if they’re his best friend. He is super friendly and has never displayed any aggressive behavior. Sometimes he might let out a friendly bark or two to a dog friend but he just wants to play. He went to an enclosed dog park last weekend and he was the most gentle, calm boy there.

We are looking for a home who understands the responsibilities of owning and raising a dog as a member of their family. Leo is patiently waiting!
