Meet Dewey! Dewey is a 2-year-old Shorkipoo (Shih Tzu/Yorkie/Poodle mix) looking for a forever home that’s ready to give him the world! Dewey is named after andouille sausage due to his long body. He’s the ultimate love bug who will shower you with affectionate licks and playful energy.
Dewey has a soft coat with wheat/cream coloring and a curly tail that looks like it was dipped in black ink. Given his low-shed coat, Dewey will require regular grooming. When he sits or lays down, he does the most darling leg splits that rival even the G.O.A.T., Simone Biles. With a wide smile, a love of squeak toys, and a knack for befriending EVERY person he meets, Dewey will quickly become your best friend.
Dewey loves being around his people and would do best in a home where at least one person is present throughout the day. He is fully crate-trained, house-trained, and knows basic commands (e.g., sit, down, stay, off, leave it, place). He is not a candidate for apartment living and requires a home with a backyard, where he can play with full confidence.
Dewey would thrive in a home with prior dog experience who can balance playtime and cuddles with a commitment to ongoing training. While he loves napping on zoom calls and playing with other dogs in a fenced yard, he can get worked up when he sees or hears another dog while on leash or through a fence/window. Over several weeks with training, Dewey has shown great improvements, demonstrating that he is teachable and ready to learn! High value treats go a long way with this foodie. We think he would do best in a neighborhood with low dog activity. A home with another balanced dog could provide companionship and help boost Dewey’s confidence through continued socialization.
