Meet Celina. Celina is a sweet 12 month old, 35 lb, FMD mix. Celina is a calm and gentle dog. She takes time to warm up to strangers but treats will expedite the process. Once she felt comfortable with her foster parents, she would snuggle up to them, resting her head on their lap to take naps – a total cuddle bug.

During the day she enjoys alternating between taking naps on the bed and sunning herself in the backyard. When she knows she’s going for a walk, her satellite ears will perk up and her tail will wag excitedly before running to the door. She’s good on a leash but may pull when distracted or in new surroundings. Similar to many FMD’s, she would benefit from a home with a backyard or access to space where she can run.

Celina is treat-motivated and a smart cookie who picks things up quickly. So far she knows “sit,” “paw,” “leave it,” “come,” and is working on her recall. She hasn’t exhibited separation anxiety and is completely potty trained. Celina wasn’t fostered with another dog, but she has played well with the dogs she’s met so far. With cats she’s untested. She has exhibited minor resource guarding with high-value treats.

Celina’s confidence has improved, but she can be unsettled by unfamiliar sights and sounds. Early on with her foster parents, she woke up to the strange sound of painters working outside the home and immediately hid under the bed. She may seek safe spaces when startled and can be scared of sudden movements (especially near her head). While she enjoys being with her humans, she doesn’t like being crowded and will sometimes need her space and alone time. She will need a home with children age 13 and up and will need to be properly introduced and they understand her personality and need for space.

Celina would do well in a home that gives her affection and also advocates for her space. We are looking for a home who understands the responsibilities of owning and raising a dog as a member of their family. Celina is patiently waiting!
