Meet Ato! Ato is an adorable 2 years old terrier mix, weighing at 27lbs. Ato is quiet, shy and skittish around new people, but with time and patience, will open up to his people. Having another dog around helps him a lot as he is more comfortable around other dogs than new people. Once he opens up, Ato is very sweet and affectionate. While still shy, he secretly loves getting attention from humans he trusts. He loves pets and belly rubs, and if you stop, he will paw at you for more! He likes chewing on his toys (and blankets!). He has chewed a few things he wasn’t supposed to, so we do recommend keeping him in his crate when left alone without supervision. Indoors, he is calm, rarely ever barks, and spends most of his day napping. He’s developed a smidgen of separation anxiety but his foster home is working on that with his crate training.

Ato is starting to love his walks, and will jump around (and even bark!) with excitement right before. He will sometimes try to jump on you, but we’re working on that too. 🙂 However, being outdoors can still put him in a stress state. Sudden movements, strange noises, and strangers often spook him; he will often plant himself in a sit and not budge if things get a little too scary for him.

Ato is housebroken, has decent leash manners, and travels well in the car. He needs a home that understands the responsibility of raising a timid dog and can commit to his training so he becomes a confident and happy dog! He will do best with a home with another dog(s) and no children. At is patiently waiting!

He is currently being fostered in San Jose, CA.
