Steve
Hi! Steve here. My name is Steve, and play is my game. I’m a 1–2 year-old Maltese mix, weighing about 15–20 pounds, and I’m basically a happy, goofy puppy in a slightly bigger body. And did I mention I’m fluffy? I have a long, white coat that gives me that cute, scruffy-fluffy look. Even better, I don’t seem to shed!
I was found tied to a tree in Contra Costa County. Why? I honestly don’t know, but it wasn’t pleasant. Love and Second Chances took me in while we waited to see if my owner would come looking for me. They didn’t. So my foster humans promised me they would find me a wonderful forever home.
And now that I’m safe, I have one very important mission: PLAY! My play style is definitely rough and tumble. I’m very pawsy—kind of like a little boxer. I’ll also go underneath another dog and flip them like a wrestler. I see every dog and every person as a potential new playmate—whether they were looking for one or not!
I’m goofy, happy, energetic, and always ready for fun. I get the zoomies and absolutely need them to burn off some of my puppy energy. I love toys and would really benefit from enrichment toys to keep my busy brain occupied.
My foster family says my middle name changes daily. Some days it’s “Stop That.” Other days it’s “No.” And sometimes it’s “Get Back Here!” But I’m always happy about my humans interacting with me!
I’m also a professional lap thief. Every lap was clearly created specifically for me. Ready or not, here I come! I love belly rubs, and I’m definitely an in-your-face kind of guy. Personal space? Never heard of it.
I’m crate trained and housebroken with an open dog door or pee pads. I’m learning about this leash thing, but I’m not leash reactive. I bark very little, usually just when strangers come in the house.
I’m good with other dogs and kids. Cats? That’s still an unanswered question.
I don’t really have separation anxiety. I’d call it FOMO—Fear Of Missing Out. If something fun is happening somewhere, I absolutely need to know about it. And if there’s food? I’m first. If there’s a human lap? It’s mine. Oh, and I’m a shoe thief. I don’t even chew them… at least not yet. I simply steal one shoe from the pair so you know immediately that something is missing. You’re welcome.
I’m looking for a family who will appreciate my goofy personality, give me plenty of exercise, play with me, provide enrichment, and understand that I’m still very much a puppy at heart.
I’m neutered, I’m vaccinated, and I’m microchipped so I’m ready to get adopted! My foster humans are picky about who gets to meet me, and they should be. I’m a special guy, and they want to make sure my forever family is just as special. So if you think I might be your guy, do a good job on that application.
Steve is my name. Play is my game. And maybe—just maybe—you’re my forever family
