Meet Panther! Panther’s foster mom stumbled across a post of a woman pleading for help in rehoming her Mastiff. She received Panther as a gift from a relative when he was a puppy. She just lost his husband at that time and Panther was a huge source of comfort for her. She has had him for 3 years. Being a single mom with 2 kids, it was impossible for her to allocate the financial resources to properly care for Panther. He was suffering from skin infections, ear infections and eye allergies. He also was wearing a prong collar which may have caused the skin infections. She also confided that her landlord was going to evict her family if she could not find another home. She tried asking family and friends but they were not able to take him. She was going to take him to a shelter. That’s when Panther’s foster mom stepped in as his foster. After 6 weeks of caring for him, he has healed from his infections, got his spunk back and will do zoomies on their lawn. He feels so much better and loves to play with his toys, go on walks and loves his belly rubs, neck scratches and bootie massages.

Panther is a sweet big baby. He loves his ball toys and chew toys and is treat-motivated. He loves his walks with his foster and he chooses what routes to go on as he likes to mix it up. If you try to go a non-prefered way, he protests by lying on the ground giving you his puppy dog eyes. He is a nosy neighbor and wants to walk by where all the action is too. He loves to fully investigate and stops to smell all the roses he can. If there is a lap available, he will sit on it. If you are chilling on the couch, be prepared, he wants to be the little spoon. Also, Panther snores like an old man- he sounds like a cow mooing in a tunnel.

One thing to mention, he is protective but not aggressive. He likes meeting people in an open area where he is introduced as Panther is all about good manners. If he is in a car, in his kennel, or if someone he doesn’t know is outside the house, he will bark and bark as he is trying to protect his family. Does he still like to jump a little when excited- yes and he will mouth/play nip to show he wants to play or when he doesn’t want his ears or eyes wiped anymore. Having treats in one hand helps to stop that.  Panther’s foster home started him on 5 Sit Means Sit professional dog training sessions. They begin on 2/19 and Panther is responding well and loves to show off what he has learned! 🙂

Panther is a special scrumptious squish and we want him to have the life he deserves! We are looking for a home who understands the responsibilities of owning and raising a dog as a member of their family. Panther is patiently waiting!
