Meet Kai! Kai was rescued from the shelter before his time ran out. Kai is adaptable enough to live in several different types of homes. He can live with other dogs and is also considered suitable for a home with cats. While Kai can certainly be adopted as an only dog, a home with another friendly, emotionally stable dog may actually be especially beneficial for him. Kai has spent most of his life surrounded by other dogs, so canine companionship is something very familiar to him. A resident dog may help him feel safe, learn the rhythm of his new household, and understand that his new environment is a safe place.
We believe Kai may settle in faster and adjust more comfortably in a home where he has another dog to follow and take cues from. More than anything, Kai needs a family who understands his timid nature. He has an exceptionally gentle temperament, but because he is easily frightened, there may be moments when he hesitates, freezes, or simply needs more time than expected to understand what is being asked of him. His fearfulness can occasionally make him seem a little frustrating, but it is not stubbornness or aggression. He simply needs someone willing to give him a moment to feel safe and figure things out.
Once Kai understands that he is safe and loved, a very affectionate side of him begins to come out. A home with a yard would be wonderful and would make his outdoor potty routine especially convenient, so it would be our preference if the right family happens to have one. However, a yard is absolutely not a requirement. Kai is a small dog, is excellent about going potty outside, enjoys his walks, and can live very comfortably in an apartment as long as his family is willing to take him outside regularly.
Ultimately, Kai needs a patient family who understands that underneath his timid and sometimes confused first impression is a gentle little dog who simply needs time to realize that this time, the love and attention are meant for him. Kai is patiently waiting for a home to call his own!
