Meet Cami! Cami is a beautiful dog and attracts a lot of attention, but needs someone who will look deeper and put her needs first.  She is a sweet dog who is trying to figure out how to be a confident dog and live her life to the fullest.  She spent much of her life trying to survive on her own, consequently, she is skittish in new situations and environments but shows a tremendous amount of resilience.  She thrives in routine and predictability so she would benefit from a home that can give her that kind of structure.   For example, she can be very nervous and afraid on walks, but if her foster mom takes her on the same route every day, then Cami begins to relax and enjoys sniffing around like a regular dog.   Cami’s foster mom is not sure she will ever be an adventure dog but can be that dog that goes on nightly walks around the neighborhood with her people.

Cami is much more comfortable inside the home and even enjoys watching TV.  She is house-trained but is afraid of being put into a kennel or pen, so her new home needs to trust her and let her free roam while building in a solid potty break routine.  In her current foster home, she has been a perfect lady. Her favorite spot in the house is next to her foster mom’s bed.  She does not have separation anxiety and sleeps away the day at home with her dog foster brother while her foster mom is at work.

Her foster mom thinks she has the potential to become a cuddly dog, but Cami is not there YET.  She will not approach her foster mom for love and affection unless her foster mom sits down on the floor at her level.  Then Cami will come and sit beside her to receive the pets.  Cami will eventually relax and lay down she might even gently paw her foster mom if the petting stops.  Because Cami craves affection now, even when she is still afraid of other things, her foster mom thinks that affection is how Cami’s new family will build trust with her. However, Cami will probably never be a dog that will want to be petted by every person she meets. and that’s okay.  Her love and trust need to be earned, but then she will be all in!

Cami looks to her dog foster brother for cues as to how to respond to things, so she would NOT do well in a home with a nervous, anxious, or shy dog. She could be the only dog in the house but would do well with a calm, confident, older dog.  She would also not do well in a home with kids, since kids can be unpredictable.  She would do best in a home with a single person or couple.

Cami is a diamond in the rough and would thrive in a home that is willing to put in the time to help her become the perfect family member.
