Meet Birdie! Birdie is a bundle of puppy love. She is very food motivated and will do anything for treats. She knows basic commands such as sit and down, and will be very easy to train. She’s potty trained and will potty on a grass pad her foster home has on their deck. She gets really excited to see her foster home when they wake up and when they come home! She loves her people and is really friendly and sweet. She is very playful and loves toys and other dogs she’s comfortable with. She would do well in a house with another dog who tolerates her puppy energy but would also be fine as a solo dog. She has puppy tendencies and needs lots of exercise or enrichment. She is not very mischievous unless there is food involved. She mostly chews on her bones or plays with her dog toys and hasn’t gotten into any of her foster parent’s belongings, but will gladly dumpster dive for snacks if given the opportunity.
Birdie’s good on leash and a good walker but can be a bit stubborn and occasionally will sit down and not move. She doesn’t like to be picked up at all and will actively resist but her foster home is able to distract her with treats to pick her up. Because she doesn’t like to be picked up it can be a bit of a challenge to get her out of the house or into the car, but she will put in some effort if you reward her with treats. Once she is in your arms, she is calm. She can be afraid of getting inside the car, but once she’s inside she does fine. Her foster home rewards her with treats on car rides to help get her more used to the car. She is not picky at all with treats and kibbles can be used as a motivator/reward.
She can be weary/standoffish of new dogs, but after an initial meeting she quickly warms up and wants to play. Birdie was very social with other dogs at the shelter and is probably just adjusting. We are looking for a home who understands the responsibilities of owning and raising a dog as a member of their family. Birdie is patiently waiting!
