Ara
Meet Ara! In March 2025, wildfires swept through rural towns in Korea, leaving destruction in their path. Our rescue partners raced to the scene in Gyeongbuk Province, where we found dogs burned, injured, and tied up with no means of escape. Many didn’t survive – but Ara did. A family’s backyard dogs had all perished in the flames… except for one little survivor. According to the guardian, this puppy had always been left out — tied up away from her mom and siblings who lived together in the kennel. It was that isolation, sadly, that saved her life. Her entire family didn’t make it out.
And that’s how we met Ara.
Even at our first meeting, she was unforgettable.
Burns hurt even when they’re tiny, but this baby had suffered severe burns across her entire face — yet she was absolutely beaming. Full of life, full of energy, always on the move like nothing had happened.
Ara recently finished her hospital stay and is now living at our adoption center, spending her days playing with her new pup friends. She adores people, though being held in someone’s arms still feels a bit unfamiliar — her expression gets a little unsure. But with her cheerful, resilient spirit, we know she’ll grow confident in no time and soon find her forever family. ?
Personality:
Ara is pure sunshine in puppy form. She’s always wagging her tail, wiggling her whole body with joy, and greeting people like they’re her favorite thing in the world – because they are! She may have burn scars on her face, but they don’t dim her sparkle. Ara is silly, cheerful, and wonderfully resilient. A happy dog through and through.
People Skills:
Ara loves people – whether she’s meeting someone new or seeing a familiar face. She’s still figuring out how to settle in laps and be held, but she’s curious, trusting, and eager to connect. With gentle guidance, she’ll grow into a confident companion who thrives on human affection.
Dog-Friendly:
Ara is friendly and playful with other dogs. She loves to engage and make friends, though her energy can be a bit much for shy or older dogs. She’d do well either solo or with an easy-going dog who can help model good manners.
Energy & Training:
As a young, growing puppy, Ara needs at least two daily walks and regular playtime to channel her energy. She hasn’t started outdoor walks yet due to ongoing vaccinations, but she’s curious and eager to explore once cleared. Socialization and structured activity will be key to her development.
Ara is still in training! She’s learning where to potty and will need continued crate, leash, and basic obedience training. She’s food-motivated and attentive – a great combo for a quick learner.
Health Notes:
Ara has visible burn scars on her face from the wildfire, but she’s healed well and in good overall health. She gets carsick easily and drools during rides, so gentle handling and rest stops are recommended for transport.
Ideal Home:
Ara is looking for a family that understands the joys and responsibilities of raising a puppy, and who can see the beauty in a dog who survived the unimaginable. She’d love a calm, encouraging home where she can learn and grow at her own pace. A well-socialized dog friend could be helpful, but she’d also thrive as the center of your world. Ara may carry the scars of a disaster, but she faces each day with joy and a wagging tail. She’s a miracle pup in every way. Now all she needs is a forever home to keep that tail wagging for life.
