Hi there! My name is Gemma, and they say I’m a Shih Tzu, about 5 years old. I’m a Pleasant Hill escapee. Two of my friends and I escaped from someone who didn’t care for us well. We were found on the streets and taken to the Martinez Animal Shelter. A kind police officer rescued me from the shelter and asked Love and Second Chances to help me find my forever home.
My fur was super matted, so I had to be shaved. But now I’m growing out my grayish-black fur, and I can’t wait to see what I look like with a full coat. I’m pretty cute now, if I do say so myself!
Apart from catching kennel cough at the shelter, I had infections in both ears and had a small mammary nodule removed. But now I’m healthy, fully vaccinated, spayed, and ready for adoption!
I’m a cuddle bug. When I want your attention, I’ll purr (yes, a growly purr) at you and bounce at your feet. My adorable face is hard to resist when I do that! But don’t get me wrong, I’m not a needy pup. I’d prefer to be in your lap, but I’m also happy to relax in my dog bed.
I’m good at going potty outside with an open doggie door. I’m food-motivated, so I think I’m very trainable. I love meeting strangers, especially kids, and I’m not afraid of other dogs. My crate is where I sleep at night. In fact, I’m the first one to go in when it’s time to go to bed! I do well on car rides, just chilling in the back seat. I love going on walks, strolling through the neighborhood, and checking out everything around me. Maybe I’ll even have a toy in my mouth for extra cuteness!
My perfect home would be a loving family that enjoys my company and takes me on trips whenever possible. I need lots of laps to cuddle on, toys to play with, and someone who thinks I’m as adorable as I do! I’m looking for a best friend who will give me all the love and pampering I need.
