Meet Melvin (aka Mongsil)! Melvin was born and raised in a dog slaughter house that mistreated him and kept him locked up 24/7. He was rescued and adopted with his sister in Korea for several years before rescuers found out their adopter was not taking good care of them. They were kept on a chain outside and emaciated (they were basically skin and bones), so they confiscated them and brought them back to the private shelter. Having been neglected and traumatized, Melvin shy when meeting new people due to his past traumatic experiences, but once opened up, he enjoys attention and is very gentle.Melvin is a very sweet and smart dog! He has come a long way and learned so much in a short amount of time. Melvin has gained confidence to go out for walks, let people pet him (only if they approach slowly and gently), and gotten used to hanging out and sleeping indoors etc. He is a very gentle and submissive dog due to growing up in in horrible situations. He has a tendency to be more scared of men than women. With patience and time, he will build trust with you and come around for scratches and pets. He spends most of the time resting in his kennel on the patio but occasionally comes inside to check on you and seek attention. While he loves going for walks, he will need more training in being around a big group of people, and busy streets. The ideal home for Melvin will have a great amount of patience, love and treats (he needs to gain more weight) to spoil him because he deserves! We are looking for a home who understands the responsibilities of owning and raising a dog as a member of their family. Melvin is patiently waiting!
