Meet Vulcan! Sweet Vulcan is a happy, friendly, gentle, enthusiastic, curious, smart baby-giant puppy boy. He is a Mastiff / mix, about 5-6 months old. If you’re a big-dog person, then you need to meet him! He will steal your heart with his big eyes and happy, mellow, loyal love.

Vulcan and his litter were rescued at 2 weeks old from an illegal meat farm, after the owner abandoned the dogs to escape a wildfire that tore through the area. Sadly, the dogs were left stuck in their cages and many did not survive the fire. We cannot imagine the horror these dogs had to go through, not only being raised as meat dogs, but also surviving the wildfire. Fortunately for Vulcan, he was in an area of the property that wasn’t badly burned, and he escaped with no injuries.

Vulcan is a sweet and loving guy, who follows his foster mom around all over the house. He takes a minute to warm up to new people, and then is full of love and happiness. He does well with other dogs, wanting to play and just hang out. He is curious about kids, and he is gentle. He is currently 45 lbs and underweight, and he is going to be an 80 – 100 lb, clumsy, energetic puppy very soon. So for safety reasons, he is approved for children over 40 lbs. He has not been cat tested, but would probably be fine.

Vulcan is doing well with house-training. He currently has free access in and out of the yard, and has had no potty accidents in the house. He is curious and a little overwhelmed on leash, so walks are slow, zig-zag explorations. He needs to be boosted into the car, but does fine once in it. He is a puppy, and is exploring the world with his mouth, so he will need to be taught what should and shouldn’t go into the mouth. He’s extremely food motivated, and will surf every counter and stick his nose into every opening, to try to find food.

Vulcan is being fostered in El Sobrante. He is patiently waiting for someone with a heart big enough to hold him in it!
