Meet Charlie! Charlie was rescued when the breeder he came from decided he was no longer of use due to hip luxation. The breeder felt he would be a waste to care for due to the issue and decided to dump him off. Luckily a rescuer got to him before that and was able to get him to the vet. They got him the FHO surgery but it was not a complete success so he will need ongoing therapy or a home that is ok and willing to keep him comfortable. Wheelchair may help but he is fully able and his spirit is high. We are looking for a home that understands the breed and will give this sweet boy a chance at finding a forever home. We know a special home is out there for this sweet boy!

"I am so grateful for the whole experience with the Love & Second Chances organization. I feel lucky they helped bring Charlie (formerly Canaan) into my life, including facilitating the process of flying him from Taiwan to San Francisco in mid December. Charlie is a 3 year old corgi who is very sweet and social with humans. He is still getting used to being around other dogs (barking, growling at almost all other dogs when we go on walks...except for a dog who also went through leg surgery (interesting enough, maybe he’s empathetic to that dog’s experience).
In Taiwan, a breeder gave Charlie up to a foster family due to his severe hip luxation (likely to avoid further breeding of the genetic disease). The foster family (Alison Wu) in Taiwan helped him get a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO surgery) in November with the hope of creating a new false joint by scarring. The love and attention provided by Alison is very apparent as I am enjoying Charlie’s company :) He is able to walk and run now, but still has some difficulty balancing on his hind legs in the recovery process from the surgery. I met with my vet in SF and have an upcoming appointment scheduled with the rehab / ortho Vet to see what therapies will be most helpful in Charlie’s recovery (PT/ aqua therapy and potentially dog acupuncture). On a side note, through our Facebook group, we have learned that Amber the corgi is from the same breeder as Charlie - it has to be fate they are both in the Bay Area now and we will have to schedule a reunion once Charlie is more settled in!
Thank you again for everything Melody and the Love & Second Chances organization!"
